Bekim Hasaj
Multidisciplinary Visual Artist
News, Statement, Projects and Exhibitions

The installation consists of hundreds of cubes, and as many pictures on their six sides — photographs and painting of patterns, details, moments... of everything. 'Everything' which practically cancels the image itself, its singularity, becoming part of a whole. The public can interact with the cubes, moving and arranging them as they wish.

Multidisciplinary project by Bekim Hasaj, 2021-present. The body of work aims to create a visual analysis on landscapes of the Ostrobothnia region and the relationship between the community and environment. Part of the project was supported by Svenska Kulturfonden.

Pictorial series by Bekim Hasaj, 2021-present. This series of works is based on an aesthetic research of shape, color, texture and abstract gestures. Using the canvas of much larger dimensions than those of the wooden board on which it is applied, the artist tried to make the canvas fit in around the wooden square by bending(folding) it in spontaneous and instinctive ways and shapes. Everything is simply focus on the very basic elements of the painting.

´Art as a unified field of experiences and activities.
Disciplines as divided parts of thought
(constructive knowledge forming apparatus).
Action (doing) goes beyond thought. It explores.
Thought builds based on defined knowledge.
Defined concepts as empty containers in the ever-changing present...
Empty containers of something that once was´
This triggered my interest and followed the critique quest on my primary art practice, painting. An implicit auto analysis on the making, on the disciplines per se as a reference to the ´medium´ that transmits a message or experience. Often becoming itself the subject of the artwork.
Generally, I aspire to have a closer understanding of reality, and by looking critically into painting as a discipline and as a language, I hope to convey the true nature of such a tool, which eventually could lead me to engage better with the reality of things. I see language in its totality, the Image, the space, and the matter as sort of ultimate perceptive tools or senses.
Therefore, I prefer to operate with the latest subjects in an open field of study without singular predefined concepts or syntax, exclusive disciplines, trends, styles, currents, or mediums.
